Crisis in Kenya

There is a whole new crisis in Africa that most people in the US are going largely unaware of. I may be one of those people were it not for a small side project I am working on with an American who is in Nairobi on a Fellowship program, working to establish a unique health care system in Kenya (more on this to come). But her work - and much else in Kenya - has been largely disrupted in the past month as much of the country battles periodic bursts of chaos and violence.

Following disputed election results at the end of December, nearly 800 Kenyans have been killed in the midst of post-election protests and violence. Its worth taking the time to look through the pictures from the NY Times seen here: http://www.nytimes.com/slideshow/2008/01/29/world/0129-KENYA_index.html

Riveting and disturbing, and at the same time so foreign to us in the US, where despite all of our "freedoms" few people choose to exercise them even when government corruption is staring us in the face.....
