The Great Wall lived up to the hype…the only images I’d seen were from post cards so to see this live was just amazing and definitely the highlight of my time in Beijing.
After about a 2 hour (freighting!) drive out of Beijing and up into the mountains we took a cable car up the side of the mountain to the Wall.
We walked around for a while up there - its so steep and incredibly hilly and overwhelming in its size - it was foggy when we first got up there but as the day went on it burned off some and you could really see how it doesn’t end.
Consumerism has of course come to the Great Wall and as you make your way down the mountain you end up climbing down through paths filled of souvenir stands and people hawking goods at you, but there is safely no Starbucks (yet) in sight!
