Hong Kong

The only thing – for some reason I really can’t explain – that I really wanted to do in Hong Kong was take a ferry ride to Lantau Island to see the Tian Tan Buddha, which is the world’s tallest sitting Buddha. So after arriving in Hong Kong our first night and heading out for authentic Cantonese food (which sounded like a good plan until a few hours after we ate…not so much fun) we left Hong Kong Island the next morning for an hour long ferry ride followed by and hour long bus ride up the windiest road anyone should ever be legally allowed to travel by bus on, and made it to the base of the Tian Tan Buddha.

You can climb up the stairs to the Buddha and walk around since it where there is a museum and restaurant – aside from that there’s not much going on all the way out there and if you only have a short amount of time in Hong Kong this may not be the best use of your time since it’s a good 5 – 6 hours round-trip, but we had fun going out there.

The rest of our short time in Hong Kong was spent wandering around the streets and attempting some shopping. Hong Kong is a lot like London (for obvious reasons) and we could actually see ourselves living there at some point – it’s a very international city and very cool and clean and easy to navigate. I really liked it an am psyched to return at some point (hopefully on my way back to SE Asia!)
